SOS #31 and #32 or the Halloween socks

9807cHere are the Jack Sparrow socks. These were a quick knit, but my stranding does need work. I had to undo the stranded section on one sock and redo it because it was too loose. If I knit this pattern again, I would do a few more rows after the heel before I start the stranded part. I think the whole skull section needs to sit up a little higher on my ankle to be less distorted.

I've had these yarns in my stash for a while. The black Knit Picks Essential is the old version. ICK! It's so scratchy compared to the Lorna's Laces Black Purl yarn. The natural Knit Picks Bare yarn is very soft.

Dwight made a funny comment about these socks. He said that these socks look nice and normal enough to wear all year. I told him that these were never intended to only be Halloween socks. I intend on wearing them as long as it's cold enough that my feet need socks. ;-)

91007hHere is the next pair of Halloween socks. This is LoveSticks yarn in Trick-or-Treat. This is an etsy shop that I've recently discovered. I like so many of the self striping yarns there. I also like the full disclosure. This yarn was noted to have a knot in the center of the skein. When I wound the yarn, the knot was in the exact center of the skein. I weighed each half and they were just about the same. I love the stripes on these socks. Each sock striped perfectly with the other one and the socks ended up identical.

Up next are some socks for Dwight. After that, I'll probably knit myself more Halloween socks. These self striping yarns are fun and make for great easy knitting while reading.

I'll leave with this picture of some turkeys that wandered through our yard last week. There were 9 total, but I couldn't get them all into one picture.

Awe turkeys! What a perfect Autumn scene! I love the halloween stripes - I'll have to bookmark that etsy shop for later. Maybe she'll do xmas ones?

More great socks! The Jack Sparrow socks are very cool (great color, too), and I love the self striping yarn.

Nice turkeys, too!

I'm in awe of the speed and variety of socks that you churn out. I thought I was a fast sock knitter, but I'm like a turtle compared to you. Wow! I've got a question about the neat way the stripes continued on the heel of your Halloween striped sock--you just short-rowed it, using stockinette stitch, right? How did you judge where to begin the heel shaping to get the wonderful almost target shaped effect with the stripes? I've just started a pair of simple top down, mindless Vesper yarn self-striping socks. I was going to do my usual flap heel, pick up stitches, knit a gusset, until I saw your results with the self-striping. Any hints? Advice? Thanks!
