It's mine!

I've disappeared again, haven't I? This time it was for a good reason. I was asked to design a mystery sock for the Solid Socks group on ravelry. For a few days, I was busy digging through stitch dictionaries and tons of graph paper all over my desk. I can up with a design, but decided to keep that one for myself. Is that bad? I liked that one a lot, but it also was difficult to divide into parts for a mystery sock. I've charted that one into excel and it's ready to be knit--someday. Digging out the graph paper and dictionaries again, I came up with another sock. Now, this one is perfect for a mystery knit. Each section looks to be interesting on it's own, but it can also have an element of randomness if we want to take it in that direction. Why so vague? Because the mystery knit isn't until June.

sock9_hAny why wait until June? Well, there's the fabulous book coming out very soon. Cookie A.'s book, Sock Innovation, should be released at the end of this month or the very beginning of next month. There are a few knit-a-longs that will start in May for this book. I knit a sample for that book and have kept that a secret for almost a year now. The publisher has put photos and descriptions of all of the projects on ravelry, so it's probably okay to show my picture. This is Bex (ravelry link). It looks far more challenging than it really is. It was a fun knit and Cookie A was wonderful to deal with. In fact, I'm sample knitting again. ;-)

Okay, that was last year's knitting. Back to current projects...I finished another pair of socks. This makes pair #35 for the 52 Pair plunge. I don't think that I'll make it, but oh well. I haven't completely been focused on socks.

3909cThis is Leaf Remains. It was originally called Open Windows, but a search on ravelry showed too many projects with exact or similar names to that. I called it Open Windows because it was designed on a day where I had the windows open and it was such a beautiful day. With it's new name, it probably would have been better to knit it in a different color.

Details:
Pair #35 in the 52 Pair Plunge II
Pattern: Leaf Remains by me
Yarn: Opal 4-ply in dark purple
Needle: size 0 (2mm) Knit Picks Classic Circular
Method: magic loop, 2 at once, toe-up, Turkish cast-on, short row heel
Start: March 6, 2009
Finish: March 9, 2009

I've actually finished another pair of socks--pair #36. Those are for my son. I need to get a picture of them before I can officially turn them over to him. I've forgotten to take a few pictures of some of my socks for the 52 pair plunge, since they usually go directly onto the little feet. After that, they're not really presentable anymore. ;-)

I've also dug out a project that has been sitting in a bag for almost a year now. It's Snowflakes in Cedarwoods by Anne Hanson, but I'm knitting it with thicker yarn and it's going to be blanket size. This project has had so many problems, but I've fixed them now and am hoping to see this finished sometime this month. Yes, I just gave myself a deadline. Now, I'm off to work on it....
